Lectures on Buildings
This book, based on lectures delivered in London and Chicago, was originally published by Academic Press in 1989. It provides a clear and concise introduction to the theory of buildings, and its continued popularity has led the University of Chicago Press to publish a new edition in 2009. The earlier edition dealt with both spherical and affine buildings, and the new edition includes a chapter on twin buildings, which have become increasingly significant in recent years.
Spherical buildings are important for finite groups of Lie type, while affine buildings are applied in studying \(p\)-adic and arithmetic groups, and twin buildings come into their own for groups of Kac-Moody type. For a detailed discussion on buildings, see the appropriate page on this website.
